What is the purpose of this part i see it on my 47 ford but nothing hooked up do i need this in completing a 12 volt conversion

To resist the current going to your starter solenoid, and volt meter. It will work without it but run the risk of burning things up.

Is the coil 6v or 12v ?

My tractor was switched over to 12 volt years ago and the coil worked great.

I am converting a 9n to 12v & 12v front dist coil, the kit says to use this resistor, however on my 8n the kit said it wasnt needed, has anyone done t

I am using this on my 2n converted to 12v following the JMOR 9N 12v wiring diagram.

is this part necessary on 6volt 8n tractor

This all depends on how your tractor is wired. In most cases it is an integral part.
