This problem book is ideal for high-school and college students in search of practice problems with detailed solutions. All of the standard introductory topics in mechanics are covered: kinematics, Newton’s laws, energy, momentum, angular momentum, oscillations, gravity, and fictitious forces. The introduction to each chapter provides an overview of the relevant concepts. Students can then warm up with a series of multiple-choice questions before diving into the free-response problems which constitute the bulk of the book. The first few problems in each chapter are derivations of key results/theorems that are useful when solving other problems. While the book is calculus-based, it can also easily be used in algebra-based courses. The problems that require calculus (only a sixth of the total number) are listed in an appendix, allowing students to steer clear of those if they wish.Additional details: (1) Features 150 multiple-choice questions and nearly 250 free-response problems, all with detailed solutions. (2) Includes 350 figures to help students visualize important concepts. (3) Builds on solutions by frequently including extensions/variations and additional remarks. (4) Begins with a chapter devoted to problem-solving strategies in physics. (5) A valuable supplement to the assigned textbook in any introductory mechanics course. Review: Such a great book! - I used this book for teaching and getting problems out of it for my courses of Classical Mechanics when I worked at the University of Santiago of Chile (USACH). I really enjoyed the book. Also the problems are challenging and varied and they all come with solutions. Each chapter has an introductory survey of the topics covered and then it brings two sections of problems: One of multiple choices and one of development or more lengthy calculations. The problems are superb and I did, previous to dictating any courses, solved most of them on my own without going to the answers, David Morin is a superb teacher and faculty of Harvard Physics Department, such a great book! I recommend this book eyes closed. Review: Great physics book - This book was very helpful to understand physics ideas conceptually and to apply them into different problems. The vast amount of questions helped thoroughly to grasp each topic.

A hint of caculus
My kids took AP Physics early in high school, before taking calculus. They're on their way to an engineering school for college, and this book is a good review of what they learned plus a little extra challenge with a bit of calculus. Many of the problems only require algebra, but I am hoping this will be a good bridge from HS physics to be prepared for engineering physics. This isn't really a textbook and doesn't cover the material in depth, but of particular note is Chapter 1 which covers a lot of different problem solving strategies. In introductory courses, I feel students are usually taught to recognize a specific type of problem and then just apply a set of formulas in a standard way. But if your goal is understanding and mastery rather than just passing the AP test, the material in this book can encourage the creative and critical thinking necessary for that.

Acceptable complementary textbook for mechanics
It has the essential for basic mechanics. One more among many, but decent.

It is a wonderful to have both the problems and solution.
I have always regreted that I did not study more physics in college. It is wonderful to have written out solutions for these introductory mechanics problems. You can read the solutions and just enjoy the physics.

Learning Introductory Mechanics well and at an early stage is the key to thriving in the World of Physics!
I placed my order for Dr. Morin's first book on January 1st, 2008 here on Amazon. Since then, he has brought E&M by Purcell up to date and now has this book to offer. For $5.95, it is a must have e-book for any high school student thinking of majoring in physics at college. Dr. Morin started mentoring me in high school, then helped me thrive at MIT. He knows the subject inside and out and conveys that knowledge exceptionally well.

The Book was received on time and in excellent condition!
I collect STEM Books. This Book is an excellent addition to my STEM Book Library. I use them as sources of proven references and excellent examples. This book is also an excellent source for Self-Instruction.

Worthy of praise
Yeah this book is on another level check it out. I’d say it’s good for building a strong foundation of the material read the other reviews from the science guys you will understand what I mean.

A fresh look
This book by Mr Morin is a kind of different perspective to make you learn the art of problem solving in subject like physics. His advice about learning strategies in the beginning of book is really worthwhile Amit Mishra

Really excellent book
Excellent collection of original problems on Mechanics with solutions and also test questions. It can be of great help also for teachers giving introductory courses on general physics and relativity.
