Not well-made for the price
The cons definitely outweigh the pros with this backpack. Amazingly, they have RAISED the price of this backpack from the original JanSport student backpack, yet the quality has gone down! Here are some of the problems:- The front zipper ripped after less than a month of use.- There is absolutely NO protection on the bottom of the backpack. The original JanSport student backpack had a protective leather bottom, but I guess they decided to be cheap and get rid of that with this version. The bottom of my backpack is already starting to develop a small tear in the bottom, which I'm sure will only get worse with time.- There's also no back padding. Therefore my books/laptop knock directly against my back while I walk. It's very irritating and uncomfortable.- The shoulder straps are also incredibly uncomfortable. They should be more padded since this backpack is designed to hold a large amount. I have to take the backpack off while walking sometimes because it's so painful. The straps are also very slick material and tend to slip off my shoulders. A chest strap to connect the two shoulder straps would help a lot with this, but it doesn't come with that.- The mesh water-bottle holder on the right side of the backpack is not deep enough to hold a Nalgene bottle. It ends up falling out while you walk. Also, since the holder is only on one side, the backpack feels uneven if you put a water bottle in it. There should be a mesh water bottle holder on both sides of the backpack for balance. In conclusion, I would not recommend buying this product. I have had much better backpacks that I bought from Target or Walmart for very cheap. This thing is a piece of crap and it's WAY overpriced.

JanSport Big Student Classic Series Backpack
I have a worn Airzuit model JanSport backpack, which is no longer made. It is more than 15 years old. I went all over the US, Europe, Mexico and Turkey using it as my carry on luggage and day pack. The big Student Classic Series Backpack has flimsy zippers, zipper pulls, and fabric. The shoulder straps had thin, poorly padded straps. I read a review that was critical of this product, but thought that the reviewer was just a complainer. My mistake. I sent it back, and will get a minor repair done my backpack at a luggage repair shop. The Big Student backpack qualifies as a medium grade toy.

Disappointed.
I've been buying my kids JanSport backpacks for years...my kindergartener is now using the same backpack my older daughter used all the way up to 4th grade (the only reason why I got my older daughter a new one was because she needed something bigger than the one she had). I purchased her this Big Student Classic BackPack in the blue hippyskip pattern, and as usual I was happy with the color and size. However, we are now only 4 months into the school year and the little hang strap between the shoulder straps has completely torn off and I'm noticing the seam stitching looks like it's coming loose as well. This is frustrating because JanSports are not cheapo backpacks and up until now I've been thrilled with their quality. I purchased this expecting to get her through her middle school years with it, however if I'm already seeing it fall apart in 4 months I don't have much faith it will even last her through the end of the school year. Hopefully it's just a flaw with this particular backpack and not a general decline in JanSport quality, as it will really stink to have to hunt down a comparable brand.

Don't expect that much
I bought this backpack in black because I figured that with a lifetime warranty for a bag that should last forever I might as well get a classic color. I wasn't keen on taking the chance at ordering pink poodle or blinded blue and be disappointed if the color didn't match the picture. (The pictures on Amazon don't match the pictures on the main Jansport website too)This backpack wasn't as big as I thought it would be. I can fit about 3 college textbooks with 3-80 page notebooks, with some space to go The main compartment of the big student pack is about an inch less wide than the main compartment of my old Billabong backpack. I did a comparison between both bags with the same exact load, and the big student pack felt heavier, was more uncomfortable because of the straps and overall felt like it was harsher on my back. Don't ignore the reviews about the straps. They are thick and definitely need to be worn in.Other things you should note:The base of the bag is not reinforcedThe material is very sturdyThere are plenty of compartments! But only one, not two side pockets.I'm giving this product 4 stars because I think that it just needs to be worn in. I wouldn't necessarily buy this pack based only on the many positive reviews. Read the bad ones too as most of them are pretty accurate too, they are just different opinions from those writers. Overall, you're probably not going to get a magical big backpack that can fit a whole high school students locker worth of books. This is an average school pack in my opinion. Great for kids because you can get free replacements if it rips for normal school use. Also shipping note: I ordered this from the ebags seller on Amazon, with free shipping that was supposed to take 1-2 days processing, and 3-5 days shipping. I purchased this Jan 15 Sunday night. Bag was shipped MLK day monday, and it was sitting on my front door when I got home Wednesday afternoon even though the delivery estimate was Friday. Quick shipping from ebags seller.EDIT: Straps are worn in. Great purchase! But still not as big as it sounds like it'll be.
