Macrobiotics For Dummies [Varona, Verne] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Macrobiotics For Dummies Review: From a Macro Vet - Easy to read basics of Macrobiotics. I took up Macro 25 years ago when my teenage son was suffering from many ailments we learned was CFS. At the time popular thought was that it was a drummed up ailment for goldbrickers. The results of following this plan were so positive that we stuck with it for about 12 - 15 years then slowly drifted away as he went of to college, law school and the "convenience" of the standard eating habits. Macro does limit your social life and I too strayed. Now that I'm 70 the ailments of arthritis, fatigue, high blood pressure etc. are annoying me more than not being able to eat anywhere and anything. I wanted to get back into a routine maybe a little less restrictive than that which I had 25 years ago. I came across this book on desertcart and recalled taking my son to see Verne Varona way back then. (he was in Los Angeles at that time) He was able to counsel my son and me as well on the Macro journey. He made a big difference in our lives at that time so I figured I'd give it another shot. It's a comprehensive and easy to read explanation of the lifestyle with plenty of simple recipes and remedies. Great for beginners or returnees or those that are just interested in one of the many ways to health and restoration. My energy levels are up, sleep is improved, arthritic pain reduced and I'm still checking with the MD to see if I can reduce some of the BP meds. Review: So Much Better than Older Books! - Really informative, well laid-out, easy to understand information. I'd purchased many macrobiotic books in the past, and this one is heads above them all so far as educational and inspiring. Not full of itself. The author knows what he's talking about and is able to present this way of eating as an option for anyone interested. Very thorough presentation, I'd recommend to anyone interested in researching macrobiotic lifestyle.

Best User Friendly Health Guide
The book Macrobiotics for Dummies, by Verne Verona, is the most user friendly health book on the market right now. There is a glut of books about macrobiotics and how to treat all of our health ills, but the thing that distinguishes this gem is the way it is written by Mr. Verona so that the reader can understand the information and immediately put it to use. The author's warmth and humor shines through every page and the reader feels like a friend is sharing his 40 years of macro experience with you, personally. Additionally, this book addresses more then nutritional needs. It details how one can change all aspects of life, including emotional, spiritual and nutritional perspectives while encouraging us to find meaning in our lives. If you want to make a profound shift in your attitudes, even if you are not macrobiotic, treat yourself to Macrobiotics for Dummies and your life will never be the same!

Informative but dry
This is a wonderful book but has a very academic and dry delivery. A great resource if you are really sure that you want to adopt Macrobiotics as a life choice, however if you are on the fence this might not be the best source.

Great book! I learned so much about nutrition from this book. I had no idea that food had such healing properties. The recipes are good too. I haven't been as disciplined as I should about cutting out the junk food, so I haven't seen any real weight loss. But, small steps for me towards health.

Give me the data!!
This book is very.... โspiritualโ. I was hoping to get a direct, scientific reference to what is in food and how to apply that to my diet. This is more of a spiritual awakening guide to eating clean and why you should do it. Thereโs a lot of skimming to get to points.

This book has certainly not helped me understand what macrobiotics is, it is an extremely poor book. A few points: first, the author presents as scientific facts, or principles, some opinions: while gravity is an established force, the principle of opposition ("everything exists in opposition") is nothing more than Taoist wishful thinking. It might be true, but it has not been scientifically proved. And opposites attract while like repels like is definitely wrong! The already mentioned gravitational force is the counterexample: there is only one kind of gravitational charge, or mass, and masses always attract, with no exception. The Chinese have a rich culture and might very soon become what they often were in the past, namely the world's mightiest power, but apart from acupuncture their contribution to science has been negligible so far. The fact that people have eaten grains for 10000 years does not prove grains are healthy, it just proves how important the invention (or discover) of agriculture has been for the human beings. And someone should informe the author that the Berlin Wall fell more than 20 years ago: at page 53 (position 1461 on the Kindle edition) the author speaks of Georgia, USSR! The book was written in 2009, USSR dissolved 18 years before. Shameful historic ignorance. Also, the word principle food seems misspelt: I would expect principal food (in opposition to secondary food), I am not surprised that the author made the mistake, but did anyone proofread the book? In conclusion, nothing more that a commercial operation, buying (and reading) this book was a waste of time

Having read several books on Macrobiotics, this one stands out as being clear, comprehensive and easily accessible. I like the way Verne Varona has written and arranged the book; it covers a lot of ground and whether you read it from start to finish or dip into it via the excellent index, you're bound to find up to date and interesting information with regard to understanding the Macrobiotic lifestyle.

Very good book with lots of information presented in a variety of ways to suit those who want the techy side and those who aren't so interested in the science. Haven't tried many of the recipies yet and maybe would have been a bit more inspired to if there were good pictures of the dishes but as this isn't really a recipe book I don't think it's fair to critise for them not being available.
