SCRABBLE® Dictionary: The official SCRABBLE® solver – all playable words 2 – 9 letters in length

After many a heated argument over whether or not a word was allowed in our games I decided to purchase this scrabble dictionary. For £8.99 it is excellent value. It is clear and concise, very comprehensive and even has definitions alongside the words. For me personally I would have preferred it if it had a separate index for 2 and 3 letter words just for speed of looking up. The only slight downside to this edition is that the print is slightly on the small side and would imagine that someone with impaired sight may struggle. Overall would highly recommend.

Replaces my c25 year Scrabble book which had no definitions, just words. Its nice now to have definitions for many words I had no idea the meaning of. Pages are almost as thin as tissue paper so they need to be handled carefully to avoid ripping. I cant see it lasting 25 years like my old one but all in all I'm satisfied with it.

As nice as these books look when you get them and as useful as they are for playing the game of Scrabble they are somewhat frustrating in the respect that the paper used for the inner pages is not of great quality. All of the word definitions you need are clear and the printing is nicely done but I doubt these books will last regular players much more than about 6 months (tops) because of the thinnesss of the inner pages and the poor quality of the paper itself. I deliberately left writing this review for a few months from the time of purchase precicely to learn more about how durable these books would be. The hardback covers have taken a few knocks and the stitching of the spine has had to endure a bit of 'push and pull' since I bought two of these. On both fronts the books are still in good condition and 'hanging in there' nicely. Sadly though, the inner pages themselves have already started to fray at the edges and become damaged and we all know from there it is a rapidly downhill slope until you get to the point where you need new books because some words become obliterated or are unreadable. This said, in today's 'throw-away' society nothing seems to be made to last like it used to and if you can pick these up when Amazon are doing a promotion they are not such bad value. Personally, however, I would rather pay £30 and get a book that last 5-6 years than have to keep on replacing these every 3-6 months. With careful handling you might be able to make these last a bit longer than 6 months and for 'occasional players' even longer but if you are a regular '3-4 times a week or more' Scrabbler like me expect to have to buy new books sooner than you'd like.

brilliant would buy again if losted

My Mum, many moons ago, spent a lot of time with me teaching me how to spell - she taught me a lot more than just spelling too - so when I started school and the other kids were just learning, I would sit there knowing I could already spell words harder than the simple ones they could - not so good in one way though as I got bored quite quickly. Fast forward a few decades and we got the scrabble out one evening - it's now become a weekly thing - however, where my Mum is a lot older than she once was, her memory isn't quite so good as it used to be, and as such she struggles a little more with spelling. She also wasn't that good with some of the 2 letter words you can use, so I bought this for her, to give her a little helping hand when she couldn't quite remember how to spell something (I should have bought a dictionary!!). Worst thing I could have done; she not only beats me again (something she'd not done for many years) she now literally wipes the floor with me. Buy it for yourself, but definitely do not gift it to someone you play against, and if you do, don't say I haven't warned you!

this is the scrabble bible we play to. if it's not in here, you can't have. simple.

This pocket sized book has won me many online games. Filled with lists, tips and tricks, it sits next to my laptop just in case. But you know what, it has taught me a great many words I have never heard of. If you enjoy words in general, grab this little book.

My 15-year-old grandson has started playing Scrabble with me so I had to replace my old dictionary. He beat me the other day Apparently "prob" is now a word.

We are having a great time with words we did not even know existed. The print is clear and the paper is of a good enough quality, very easy to flip through. There are even descriptions which are great when it comes to the more bizarre words.

Good clear and concise dictionary

I belong to a "Super Scrabble" group and find that this is the most comprehensive word list for Scrabblers. It contains both British and United States language, and as we are Canadians, this is great for us as we use words from both "English" speaking nations. The one complaint I have is that the print is small (I will soon have to use a magnifying glass) to keep the soft-cover format smaller and easy to carry around to games.
