Fun!
This fun and informative book is a good sturdy hardback which means it will take a bit of bumping and knocking that comes naturally with being around young children. However the current price of 12.99 is quite expensive in my opinion, I would be more comfortable paying around the 8/9 pound mark for this book, and this is why i am removing 1 star. The front cover is very engaging as the illustration is so pretty and the colouring is stunning and fun. This wonderful book teaches children about the life cycle of a butterfly through interesting and engaging narrative, sweet characters and beautiful illustrations. The font is also great for children as it is a good size and spaced out well which promotes independent reading as it is not intimidating to a child. I really love this book as children as learning but in a fun and enjoyable way.

Ideal factual book for early years
My wife was a primary school teacher and finds this book is ideal for the infant classroom, or for your non fiction shelf at home. It is available in hard or paperback versions in a large square format and every page is in full colour. The illustrations are bold and lively with easy to read text. It follows the life cycle of the butterfly through the eyes of a young boy and girl and their dog as they explore the countryside. It gives just the right amount of information for this age group and introduces correct vocabulary such as chrysalis and metamorphosis in a very natural way. It answers questions such as 'how long do butterflies live?' If your child has grown up with the Very Hungry Caterpillar this book will provide the facts. At the end of the book there are two pages of ideas for things to do - collage, word games, butterfly face painting or find online the video of a Monarch caterpillar turning into a chrysalis. Awe and wonder!
