A great budget phone that feels premium
You'd be forgiven for thinking that the Huawei Mate 20 Lite was a far more expensive phone than it is. While it has an older brother, in the form of the 20 Pro, the Lite is a fantastic device for the price. The device comes with a screen protector in the box, plus manual, sim opening tool, headphones and USB C charger, all in a premium looking black box. Turning the phone on, the 6.3 inch screen looks impressive with its 2340 x 1080 resolution. It's bigger than last year's P20 with thinner bezels but has a larger notch at the top to allow for the double front camera. The colours look natural, if a little more muted than some other phones and the response to touch is really quick and accurate. Face recognition and fingerprint recognition can be used for securely unlocking the phone and both worked well. The Face recognition is the easier of the two as it just works when you hold the phone up, though it had issues in low light. The Mate 20 Lite also has a proper headphone port (yey!) and, more surprisingly for a budget phone, USB C. The camera on the back is 20mp plus another 2mp for blurring and distance effects with a f/1.8 lens. It won't beat top end phones but takes some nice phones, none-the-less. There are a wealth of options and the AI helps you to get good photo in seconds by recognising the subject. I've tried this on flowers, dogs, landscapes and even the moon and it managed to recognise them all, providing a suitable photo mode to match. Surprisingly, the front facing camera is 24MP + 2MP which seems a bit much for selfies but I'm not complaining. Android 8.1 is installed by default but it immediately notified me of an update to Android 9, the brand new OS, which was a nice surprise. Many of last year's phones still haven't got 9 yet. Overlayed on top of this is the latest version of Huawei's own EMUI front end which changes some of the icons slightly and adds their own tools to the mix. Having used previous phones from them, I'm used to this and find the tools fairly useful. Things such as Huawei Health 9 are well designed alternatives to other health apps. The 3,750mAh battery keeps the phone going all day. I've used mine over almost 2 days for calls, photos, internet and gaming before the battery finally gave out and needed a recharge. Thankfully, it has fast charging via the USB C port. Huawei have brought back additional storage via Micro SD card this year. The included 64GB on the phone should be fine for apps but having a 128GB or 256GB card in the phone is great for media. Gaming-wise, the Mate 20 Lite is average, as expected, the Kirin 710 chip copes fine with Asphalt 8 and Real Racing 3 but struggled a little with Fortnite on full. It's perfectly fine for general casual gaming, though. Overall, the Huawei Mate 20 Lite is a great budget phone for those who don't want to spend huge amounts but want something that looks good, is fast, up-to-date and, more importantly, has a great camera. that can take impressive pictures.

Amazing phone for amazing price!
I was so excited to be part of this campaign. To provide background, I have only ever been surrounded by Blackberry’s, iPhones and Samsung’s. These are all phones that are quoted as “top of the range”, “best camera quality” but are also the most expensive. My whole family use an iPhone whereas I have emigrated from Blackberry to iPhone. I was therefore pleased to be trying the Huawei after I had heard such positive reviews from the its camera quality. I have broken down the review into the following: User system: Being an android user, the system was one I was used to as it was easy. However, as I moved from Samsung to Huawei different settings were in different places. I would expect this as I would not expect all models to have buttons in the exact same places but I did expect to find it easily which I did. The buttons are logical and the pull down easy access menu is a feature I like of Androids. I also like that it has the three button option at the bottom of the phone – so the middle button to return to home, the left hand to go back and the right hand button to select options. It is much easier than the one button iPhone. Speed/Battery Life: So far, all the applications have worked impeccably fast and the reaction time of pressing the buttons and opening is amazing. I have also so far gone two days without charging my battery (may be that I close my applications). Look/Weight/Height: The look of the phone is sleek and thin but it is large so it would peek out of a jeans pocket. Saying that, considering its camera and its speed, I am happy to have a large, heavier phone for what I receive. This phone is actually one that gives the photo quality that Samsung/iPhone promises. Picture Quality: The quality of this camera rivals one of a bulky, heavy camera. The quality is amazing and I no longer need a filter! It is so clear and picks up details such as colour

Fantastic Phone for the Money
I have been using the Huawei Mate 20 Lite for several weeks now and have been absolutely mesmerised by the look and feel of this phone. The 20 megapixel rear camera with AI technology has proven to be everything expected and promised by Huawei. Just to see the AI on the camera identify my cat or flowers, etc, shows the camera on the Mate 20 Lite is a cut above all competitors. The 6.3” displays images in beautiful, bright clarity. Whilst the outstanding camera is the main selling feature of this mid-range Huawei phone you can’t overlook the other features that makes this phone a rival for its major competitors. The battery on this phone deserves a mention. The super quick charge time, via usb type c, and the extended battery life means you can depend on this phone not needing a charge during a busy day. I have found I have only needed to fully charge every other day with normal daily smartphone use. The Mate 20 Lite offers excellent security features. The facial recognition ID is very responsive and identifies me nearly every time, even in very poor light. The rear finger scanner also offers additional security feature to the facial recognition ID. This phone actually comes with a headphone jack allowing the easy use of any style of headphones. One simple feature that I have found really helpful in learning to use the phone is the ‘tips’ app that was pre-installed on the phone. I have learnt a few new things about the abilities of the phone through the use of this app. Overall the phone is extremely impressive and will help make Huawei the true Android smartphone front runner.

A brilliant phone for the price.
First off the camera, 20 mega pixel and easy to use. Good zoom the photos look good. The only downside was getting my old sim in and opening the slot with the pin, a bit fiddley but once that was done everything else was easy. Set up was not a problem I logged into gmail and was up and running in a few minutes. The fingerprint recognition is nice and a quick way to get in the phone. Faster than using the facial system. I had read the the company had had issues with using the app store, but it is on the phone and once I had it connected to my Wi-Fi I had all the regular apps up and running in a few minutes. Good camera, fast and reliable and very good value for money. Can not comment on the headphones as I use a dedicated MP3 player for my music, still the headphones supplied will make a useful backup pair.

Using it for 1 month: very happy with it! :)
Quite a good phone for the price it's sold at. I've been using it for a month so far and it's as good as I imagined. The battery life is simply amazing, I'll actively use my phone almost all day and it'll be at 50-40% by the end of the day Super charge is also a very useful tool, charges my phone incredibly quickly If you're not willing to pay for a super high-end phone but want a phone that still holds its ground, I'd go for this

Amazing phone for the price
What an amazing phone this is for the price. I paid £189.99 and over the moon with everything on this device. The camera is absolutely amazing, the picture quality so impressive for a mid range priced phone. If you don’t want to spend a fortune on a phone this is the product for you.
