This device comes with an installation CD the contents of which need to be installed prior to attaching the device. I installed the BlueSoleil firmware but received a message that this firmware is only for evaluation purposes and will expire after 30 days. To continue using the firmware i need to "activate" by purchasing a serial number. This doesn't seem quite right but that's what it says. EDIT: Found this .... [...]

Complex and inconvenient, also not very long range in practice.
Needs a different piece of Bluetooth software (Blue soleil), so complicated to set up and use. Stops other Bluetooth devices working. I think that it is not very effective, Bluetooth is a two way system so both ends of the connection need to be high power to be fully effective.

Works well, not exactly long range
Seems to do the job, used with Home Assistant. I've got a Tuya Bluetooth button pusher in the upstairs bathroom, and this stick is in the living room directly downstairs, and it can't detect it. I found the range is around 10M with clear sight, it barely penetrates walls. I think calling this "Long Range" is a bit of a con, but likely because Bluetooth doesn't go far anyway.
