I don't like the ergonomics of the Game Boy Advance SP and ...
I don't like the ergonomics of the Game Boy Advance SP and so I started looking for options to backlight my old GBA screen. I chose this product. After completing the install, I'm happy to say the quality and clarity on this screen is amazing! It completely transformed my GBA. It even seems to have slightly better contrast than my (original) game boy DS, exceeding my expectations. I paired this with a real glass replacement lens and it is like having a whole new device. It did not come with instructions but I found those easily online. It is necessary to modify the shell of the original GBA, but it only took me about ten minutes to do so. I had to use a dremel because I couldn't cut the plastic with the razor I had. I don't know if I needed to do this with the ribbon cable I had, but I soldered the wire. Soldering the wire did take some skill. That is a tiny connection! One other note, the fit will be really tight, and the end of the ribbon adapter that comes with this is really thick. You will have to adjust it so the ribbon connector is not on top of the processor on the other side of the board, or you won't be able to close the case. Even so, I can see a slight bending of the screen when I push buttons. This is not a problem with the screen, but with the adapter. (the screen ribbon is quite long, actually, but the adapter connects at an odd length, just on top of the chip). If the adapter was longer or thinner there would be no problem. I may put in some spacers so that the adapter isn't putting pressure on one part of the screen, or look for a thinner adapter. One final note, it took several weeks to ship to me because it came from China. Still, I feel the screen was a worthwhile purchase and improved my GBA considerably.

This did not work for me. Also, i found out that they rarely do.
A video I watched on youtube tutorial said that he had to buy another one because the first one did not work. the backlight is then wired into this pin controlled by a variable switch. the switch is not easy to control because once you pass the peak power it starts back at the bottom, so, there isn't a bottom of the switch it just endlessly loops around.

easy to instal and works great! soldering is optional see review.
Found an old gameboy advance and forgot how bad the screen was, this kit is great! This was my first "real" mod. There are plenty of youtube videos with step by step. The hardest part is shaving down the plastic with an exacto blade; is more time consuming than hard. Other than that pretty easy! Took about an hour. I was pleasantly surprised to see a glass replacement screen too! The wire that is attached to the convertor does not need to be soldered on to work. However, if you do the backlight will be more powerful. I tested it before soldering and i felt there was no need for it to be brighter, as i am mostly adding the screen so i can see at night. If you want to see in bright sunlight you might want to consider soldering.

I like it, didn’t appreciate the time I got sliced while snipping off the plastic though
The most important thing is that it works perfectly, the thing is that I have been wasting hours trying to figure out why the screen wouldn’t turn on until I realize the ribbon was installed facing the wrong way of the dohicker it’s suppose to clip onto. I kinda messed up my GBA, but it’s repairable if the black screw head below the batteries wasn’t erased by my dumb-A. Also the screen is slightly tilted but I barely noticed that mistake of mine. But the important part of the entire thing, is that it works, it does what they say and if you messed it up don’t blame that guy or the other, blame yourself. Anyways thanks for the screen! P.S. the on and off switch got snapped off inside the GBA but I was grateful that it landed on the on switch before it went bye bye :| there’s a lot of battery fidgeting so I could turn off the darn thing on and off.. which resulted in the battery case’s plastic little thing on the top where it’s suppose to secure the battery inside to snap off and now I can’t take out my GBA To public soooo now I have to just wait for a new one, yep stupid me managed to mess it up that easily

kit works great! tools are crap!
the LCD screen is awsome and dosnt draw hardly any more power than the stock screen. relatively easy install. only thing keeping it from having a 5 star review is that the screw driver that came with the kit SUCKS! it literally snapped while i was tightening a screw down on the motherboard. if your going to get this kit just make sure your UBER gentile with the screw drive they send or just go out and get yourself a small screw driver kit with a tri star head. it will save u the headake .

Be careful when installing.
I would have given this product 5 stars except for the fact that the screen has that off colored bar all the time. I feel it’s still better than not having a back lit screen and even with the off colored bar I’m having more fun with my game boy.

Great product quality parts!
This product works great! If you want the screen to fit inside the case you may have to shave certain parts of the plastic away but that id optional. There is only one part on the case that bulges a little bit but is not noticeable. Overall great product and I am sure I will buy another one, I highly recommend this product to anyone new to the modding world of the gameboy. ( Also there is a red wire that can be soldered to add extra brightness to the screen but soldering is completely optional I plan to solder it when I can get my hands on a soldering iron.)

Don’t Buy As Replacements to GBA SP Models.
The mod worked for the original. But I ordered three screens and they would not work on a AGS 101 model that had a broken screen. Unfortunately the screen wouldn’t turn on on the SP and tried both replacements. This must be marketed wrong because they should work as suitable replacements. Lost my SP out of the deal. (Hint: No screen)
