I have a toshiba sata from a laptop. if i use this cable, will the power come from the usb or will i have to have a separate power supply to the hdd?

Yes it’s self powered and a USB 2.0 socket works fine

Would this work for a laptop HHD to remove files from?

If the laptop HDD is a SATA one, which is probably the case, yes. Also, in this case, the external power supply is not strictly needed, as power consumption of laptop (2.5”) HDD is low enough to be handled by USB. That’s not the case for 3.5” HDD

Is this compatible with maxtor diamondmax 21 3.5 series? (sata power and data and jumper block connections)?
