I**A
a neglected classic
A classic, important study in the anthropology of development, grounded in the author's own work within USAID, and analysis of the organizational and institutional pressures that constrain and shape development agency employees' cognition and action. Ferguson cites it ever so briefly, Escobar not at all, and it's too bad--cutting-edge work in the anthro. of development (e.g. Mosse) has finally come back around to a focus on the relationships between organization and discourse that Tendler outlined 30 years prior.
