32 bit XP
The only complaint is that the installation instructions were a little misleading about how to install the software, but the bottom line is you ask Windows to search the CD for the drivers, and after a longish delay it pops up a list of 3 candidates. It's not hard to tell which one you want. Also, given how cheap serial port hardware is, I'd argue that the unit is a little overpriced. That's why I'm not giving it 5 stars. But it installed cleanly and up popped 4 serial ports, as promised. Works as advertised. This replaced a cheaper but absolutely worthless piece of junk sold by Amazon, manufactured by "IO Crest". If you're hunting for USB to serial conversion, this device, despite being twice the price as that one, is your best bet.Addendum: I'm dropping this to 3 stars, after spending too long trying to work out which serial port on the unit maps to which com port in Windows. You'd think it would be some obvious progression: COM3 in windows to DB 1, COM4 in Windows to DB 2, etc. It wasn't. They got assigned in a random order. Working it out by trial and error was annoying. Not a deal breaker, but come on...Addendum: back to 4 stars. It got hit by a lightning surge and died (can't blame it for that), so I got another, and installation was smoother (and the ports showed up in order this time.) Price could still be lower, for what it does..

Works well on Windows 7
I am writing some automated test software for a device that communicates through 4 RS-232 ports. This Star Tech adapter is perfect for my testing. I use it regularly on two 64 bit Windows 7 machines and one Apple Mac running 32 bit Windows 7, on Boot Camp. The only strange behavior, is that, on all 3 machines, the ports did not install in the order they are numbered on the back of the adapter. They are numbered 1,2,3,4 but in my case they installed as 1,2,4,3. So, on the computers, port 3 was mapped to the port labeled as 4 on the device. I spent a few hours one night figuring that one out. You are able to reassign the port numbers and the assignments are retained by the operating system. All in all, this device is well worth the money ;)

This device works great
My new PC motherboard (Asus Rampage IV Extreme) no longer has any serial port. However, there are still a few things in the house that require the occasional use of a serial connection. I primarily use it to connect to a Simply Automated UPB PIM (Universal Power-line Bus Plug-in Interface Module) and run the Upstart software to configure the home UPB network. I also use it to program a URC Remote Control. I guess I could have gotten away with a dual port adapter, but the price difference is not that much. My PC runs Windows 7 64-bit. On this OS, I didn't need to install any driver myself. As soon as I plugged in the unit to my PC, Windows automatically searched the Internet, downloaded, and installed the required FTDI driver. Device Management shows the 4 new serial ports. On my machines, they are assigned Ports #6, 7, 8, and 9. They correspond one-to-one to the physical ports on the unit. Unplugging and replugging the unit didn't change the sequence, so this unit must have COM retention capability. All-in-all, I am quite pleased with it.

Good product & Useless wall mount.
Pros: Works as advertised!Cons: The supplied wall mount is useless! It blocks access to the ports so that the serial cables cannot get plugged in fully. I am sure you might be able to cut/or file a little off of the plastic mount to get some extra space, but the mount is very poorly designed and accomplishes nil in terms of functionality.

Works Great !!!!!!
I've had a number of USB to serial port adaptors, but recently after upgrading to WIN 7 64Bitthey have become erratic in behaviour. I needed multiple serial ports that could handle the fasterbaud rates of 115K. This adapter was flawless, I did not even have to use the CD to install thedrivers, Win 7 recognized the adaptor with out issue...I am running three rs232 devices on this adaptor at 115K and the throughput is moderate to heavyand the device and drivers seem to handle the applications fine..I recommend this product for those wanting a clean solution to recover the lost RS232 ports on todayscomputers, as well knowing the device will work with the latest OS ' WIN 7 'Chuck

Windows 7 64bit
For those looking for serial ports for 64bit Windows 7. This works perfect.Used the drivers from their web site. Detected the unit fine. Up and running in 5minutes.I use many serial ports for Ham Radio equipment in Windows 7. Most of my USB to serial adapters don't have updated drivers for Windows 7. This solved the issue nicely. The unit is silver, not black and is a plastic case. Comes with a wall mount bracket. Easy to mount.Hope this helps others that need USB to serial adapters in Windows 7, 64bit.

I wind up not needing this item. I had to wit for the installation reps to let me know it wasn't needed. I can't return the item due to the return time frame that I wasn't aware of. I don't think I will be ordering anymore.

Awesome device, I have 3 of these in various offices, and they all are bulletproof. Never have to power cycle them like some USB-serial converters I have used.
