We enjoy our game night playing detectives. These games are easy to understand and a lot of fun.

Very good case! I have done 3 or 4 of the Unsolved Case Files now, they are really fun. I have always done them with a group, but this one I solved on my own! I will continue to do more cases. I highly recommend these to anyone who loves murder mystery style stuff.

I almost never write reviews, but this game deserves it! It turned our Christmas into a full-blown detective showdown. It took us several hours (and plenty of laughs) to figure out who the real killer was—and trust me, the twists kept us guessing until the very end. The best part? There are multiple cold cases available! We’ve already decided to order another one for our next family gathering because this was such a hit. In fact, we’re re-gifting this case to my daughter’s friends so they can experience the thrill of solving it too. If you’re looking for something unique, interactive, and guaranteed to spark conversation, this is it. Brilliant idea and worth every minute!

I tend to eat, sleep, and breathe mystery-related stuff. Reading books, playing games, doing Hunt A Killer cases, etc. I remember that something like 10-15 years ago there was a short-lived "solve a murder" type show on TV (which was seemingly cancelled during the first episode) that opened with a person saying "So you read a lot of mysteries and watch a lot of crime shows, and now think you can do the job of an actual homicide detective?" And I thought "Why, yes!" LOL. Not really of course, but I mention all this to show the perspective this review is coming from. You get a real-life looking case file with crime scene photos (nothing graphic), witness interview transcripts, newspaper clippings, etc. All seemingly very true to life, so it feels quite authentic. And basically you have to use all the information you're given to, in this particular case, first prove that the person wrongly convicted for the crime is innocent and then find the actual killer. Personally, I felt the killer's identity was a little easy to figure out, but that's with all my experience talking. I completed it about 4-5 hours after I started but I wasn't working on it non-stop. I'd guess it would have taken about 2 hours if I'd worked on it straight through. That's from my end of the spectrum - someone who isn't experienced with this sort of thing, it's hard to say how long it could take. But there are hints you can use to get pointed in the right direction, so how long it takes might ultimately might depend on how willing you are to 'cheat' for lack of a better term. The one thing I want to mention above all is what a fantastic value this is. It's currently priced at $29.99 and, having done similar cases with Hunt A Killer, this price is a fraction of what they charge. With Hunt A Killer you pay around $30 per box with 6 boxes making up an entire case, and once you finish a box you have to wait a few days for the next one to be sent to you. Here you get everything up front for $30. And what you get is just as authentic. This case is the only one I've done but I'd definitely buy more in the future. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars just because, for me, it was a little easy. But I strongly recommend it to anyone who likes playing detective and solving mysteries.

I LOVE this game! I have played a lot of other brands - Hunt a Killer, Murder Mystery in a Box, Dispatch by Breakout, Sleuth Kings and the Deadbolt Society and this one is a top favorite! First of all, and for some people this will be a negative but for me it's a positive...there are NO ciphers or puzzles! I am SO bad at ciphers and every single murder mystery experience game seems to include them. It takes me out of the game because in real murder investigations you are not going to be deciphering morse code or something like that, you will just have to rely on the documents and evidence in front of you. This is great because it's packed full of documents and it has an easy to follow format. You complete the first objective, go online to click the two pieces of evidence you used to reach the objective, and then if you're right you open the next envelope and repeat (there are three, plus a bonus one). There are also hints if you need them. Some murder mystery boxes offer NO clues which is really frustrating because sometimes you just get stuck but don't want the entire answer to the game. It's also high quality - nice looking documents, lots of photos (yes they look like stock photos, but it's fine), and plenty of red herrings and twists and turns. The only negative thing is there are quite a few typos and grammatical errors. I guess you could technically blame the "transcribers" doing the cases in-game, but that's a little weak. Also, the witness statements - the witnesses speak in a very formal way, not in a way that normal people talk, which is a little jarring. ("I witnessed the butler enter the premises at 8:40pm and that's when the incident occurred." no one talks like that!) but it's overall a very good game and there was a lot of thought put into it. My recommendation is to TAKE YOUR TIME, there is no rush. Read and re-read and look at everything carefully. I played by myself but you could play with as many people as you want! I would say this is very family friendly...there is no cursing or graphic images or anything. I would like to play the rest of the cases and highly recommend!

This was fun. As a somewhat retired attorney I appreciated digging into a case file again and this company makes it harder because I solved it but I had to prove the pieces of evidence. Very cool.

I am writing this review more of the quality of the package than anything else. The three things to solve were pretty good, although I did get the first one within minutes. My wife and I veg in front of the TV way too much so this was fine for two hours. The mystery is t so hard it takes hours of searching online for stuff. Not at all everything to solve the crime is in front of you. We really like this feature. We tried other subscription ones but they were nuts. This much better. It was fun, top quality materials, and overall impressive set. My only negative is the way to make sure you are right, you have to verify two pieces of evidence used, but sometimes there are three pieces. Person of Interest and witness statements have similar info. Anyway, it is a really good kit at a fantastic price. I hope this review was helpful!

I don’t normally write reviews, but I just finished “solving this case” and am so satisfied with it, I had to let others know. I ordered this awhile back and once I received it my initial reaction was impressed. It came in an evidence bag all sealed up and looking like actual crime evidence (besides the obvious back explaining the game and barcode etc.) Opening it up there is a case folder filed with all sorts of evidence. From photos of the victim and location, autopsy report, person of interest files filled with witness testimonies, and interrogation, a map of crime possible suspects locations etc. Right away I will say this is not what I initially expected it to be, which is great! I had originally thought it wasn’t going to actually solving a case with evidence but more of a “escape room “ game where you had to find a hidden image like I-Spy or do a puzzle or math problem to figure out the next clue. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out I was wrong. I had gone through all the evidence and at first sat there and thought “ok what the heck do I do now?!” You had to really look at EVERYTHING and piece together clues and statements to find out everything. Advice is only focus on one objective at a time. Your first objective is written on the inside of the case file. Don’t worry about anything else until you get that solved. For me personally once I figured out the first objective I was able to solve the others one pretty much back to back. Though it might be because I had an early suspicion that I kept in my mind and certain ideas I kept thinking “had to be involved “. All and all it took me only a few hours and that was mostly me just going through all the paper work. But I will say it was so much fun and so satisfying to see when I was correct after verifying each objective! The only complaints I have is not being able to play it all over again! (Though I do plan on having my fiancé and a family member try out on their own too if I can keep from gushing about how I solved the case lol) Also another note. When I had tried to go to the url link indicated on the folder to verify my first objective, it wouldn’t work. If you go to the unsolved case files website, click on your case file and scroll all the way down to “answers” link and click that, then you can click on whichever objective you are trying to verify (don’t worry there are no spoilers in the answers if you go in order) Would definitely recommend to any true crime or mystery fan.
